Projects

The project draws on our years of experience in the study and characterization of cellular cofactors associated with HIV infection, our capacity for screening and identifying drugs active in primary cells, our HIV infection models and our recent results regarding cellular proliferation associated with HIV-1 infection.

Our ultimate goal is to establish models of persistently infected cells and a predictive model for sensitivity to new drugs.

We propose to study the expression of HIV infection cofactors as modulated by early infection events or reactivation of other viruses in infected cell models and in patients co-infected to varying degrees. The project results will provide the foundation for new treatment strategies, prophylaxis and prevention of sexually transmitted viral infections.
