Nel Marín Sánchez
Nel Marín graduated in Biotechnology from the University of Salamanca (USAL) in 2022. During this period, he participated in an Erasmus program in Torino (Italy), where he discovered his passion for Bioinformatics. For his bachelor’s degree dissertation, he performed a 16S metagenomics analysis of human skin samples using multiple bioinformatics tools.
Intrigued by the vast possibilities within Bioinformatics, he moved to Barcelona with the objective of delving deeper into the field, particularly in Genomics. He enrolled in the Bioinformatics master’s degree program at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB). As part of his academic journey, he was an intern at the Institut de Biologia Molecular de Barcelona (IBMB) in Albert Jordan’s lab of Chromatin Regulation of Human and Viral Gene Expression. Thanks to this experience, he could complete his master’s degree dissertation performing a characterization and comparative analysis of histone H1 variants genomic distribution in the T2T-CHM13 genome assembly.
Eager to expand his knowledge, Nel joined the Microbial Genomics (GEM) group at IrsiCaixa as a predoctoral researcher. His research focus lies in studying the human microbiome’s role in HIV immunopathogenesis and its influence on the efficacy of different state-of-the-art treatment strategies, using integrative multi-omics approaches.
