The project aims to assess the role of HIV-1 infection restriction factors as crucial elements in disease progression. Preliminary results suggest differing infection restriction regulation in HIV-1-positive patients with differing progression rates. This project will result in the validation of new infection control and monitoring markers for the post-HAART era and the identification of strategies aimed at reducing chronic activation in HIV-positive patients.
