IrsiCaixa participates in the first gender summit in health sciences
Directors and representatives of biomedical research centers from Catalonia joined to talk about gender equality
Julia García Prado, principal investigator at the Viral Immne Evasion and Vaccine (VIRIEVAC) group at IrsiCaixa, joined 18 directors and representatives of biomedical research centers from Catalonia to talk about gender equality.
The summit was held on October 22 in Gerona within the framework of the First Gender Summit in Health Sciences, an initiative organized by AQuAS and the Department of Health in collaboration with “La Caixa” Banking Foundation.
During the summit, scientists shared data about the impact of gender inequality in the research field. “We have to evolve and include women in all areas of the scientific career”, emphasizes Garcia-Prado, “we believe in promoting the gender perspective and empowering women”, she adds.
IrsiCaixa participated actively signing a Commitment Letter supported by a total of 19 research institutes and which includes 12 principles for gender equality. Based on this commitment, an action plan will be developed by the Institutions, the Department of Health and AQuAS. The plan aims to claim gender equality and to promote the leadership of women in the biomedical area.
