IrsiCaixa hosts the second meeting of HIVACAT’s Community Advisory Committee
HIVACAT’s Community Advisory Committee, created last July, recently celebrated its second annual meeting at the IrsiCaixa Institute for Aids Research.
Within the framework of this meeting, the members of the Committee visited the IrsiCaixa laboratories, guided by the head of scientific-technical services, Teresa Puig. They were also able to visit the facilities of the HIV Unit and the Lluita Contra la Sida (Fight Against Aids) Foundation, which are also located at the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital.
Mercè Meroño, new president
One of the most important events during the meeting’s programme was the naming of the president and secretary of the Community Advisory Committee. Mercè Meroño, coordinator of the Woman Area of the Prevention Area non-profit organization (Àmbit Prevenció), was appointed new president. Anna Tor, of IrsiCaixa, was appointed secretary.
In this second meeting the rules and regulations that will guide the body were also approved, amongst other matters discussed over the course of the meeting’s programme. The Committee’s next meeting will take place on January 20.
About the Community Advisory Committee
The Community Advisory Committee is an external body that aims to guarantee communication and exchange between the scientific community and several groups of people affected by HIV and professionals in this field.
The HIVACAT project, the objective of which is to research and develop an aids vaccine, is co-directed by the IrsiCaixa Institute for AIDS Research and by the Infectious Diseases and Aids Service of the Clinical Hospital of Barcelona, in coordination with Esteve and with the support of the “la Caixa” Foundation, the departments of Health and Innovation, Universities and Enterprise of the Generalitat de Catalonia and the Clinic Foundation.
