Irene Silva Ruiz
Irene graduated in Biotechnology from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) in 2023. For her bachelor’s degree dissertation, she conducted molecular and biological characterization studies of African Swine Fever (ASF) viral strains at the European Union Reference Laboratory for African Swine Fever (EURL-ASF), based at the Animal Health Research Center CISA-INIA in Madrid.
She then pursued an MSc in Bioinformatics at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), graduating in 2024. During her Master’s internship in the Computational Biology group at the Institut de Biotecnologia i de Biomedicina (IBB), she focused on computationally modeling and studying protein-only nanoparticles acting as drug nanocarriers capable of targeting tumoral and metastatic cancer cells.
Irene joined the Pathogen Immunity, Signalling and Therapeutic Applications (PISTA) group at IrsiCaixa as a predoctoral researcher in February 2025. Her research focuses on the development of novel host-directed antiviral therapies and immunomodulatory strategies to combat viruses posing a pandemic risk.
